Change
Do you ever hear a word or a phrase and automatically you start singing a song? Every time someone talks about change all I hear is the David Bowie song Changes. Ok, ok, ok- to be honest I hear it as the Shrek version. You can watch it HERE and maybe it’ll be all that you think about when you hear the word change too!
I’m honestly not a huge fan of change, well, of sudden change. I need time to adapt and rethink all the plans I had. I go through phases to accept change: Anger, Resentment, Acceptance, Excitement. I’m learning to handle it better and try not to be so dramatic.
The fall brings a lot of changes. I always have a really hard time with my kids going back to school. The fact that they are one year older and moving up a grade level is really difficult for me to handle. My oldest son is a senior in high school this year. I think I’ve cried every day. This is it for him. The last time for everything. The last first day, the last football games, the last Homecoming. I would give just about anything to be able to go back and be with him as a little guy again. Don’t get me wrong- having a more grown up kid is great! But I miss him being little. It’s hard accepting the change. Next year when he goes off to school (which I 100% want him to do because it’s what he needs) I’m going to be a wreck. I can’t even start thinking that far ahead without losing it. I have 3 more right behind him that I’ll get to live these changes with, and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to handle it. In fact, just typing these words make me tear up.
Do you struggle with change too? Lots of the time, change is a good thing! Moving, getting married, painting your kitchen, going somewhere different for a vacation. All are good changes. Sometimes the circumstances that put the change in motion aren’t always good, but the change itself is.
