Teen Driver Safety Week
October 18-24 is National Teen Driver Safety Week. National Teen Driver Safety Week is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to prevent teen injuries and deaths on the road.
If you have ever had a teen driver in your house, you know how terrifying this can be. I currently only have 1 teen driver and it has taken me a whole year to come to terms with it. When he started drivers training I was a wreck. I could barely drive in the car with him. The thing is, he’s a great driver! He is cautious, very conscious of the speed limit, and aware of his surroundings, so there is no reason I should have been such a mess. One of the rules the State of Michigan has in place for drivers under 16 is that they cannot drive after 10pm unless coming home from work or a school event, and they cannot have anyone in their car other than family. These were my favorite! I wasn’t the bad guy enforcing the rules, it was the state. My son turned 17 in June, so these no longer affect him, but he still does pretty well about being out and about. The National Teen Driver Safety program has some great resources and articles for all stages of new drivers, from “thinking about driving” to “older novice drivers”. Check out the website HERE. There are tips for Teen Drivers and also for their parents!
You can find your states Graduated Drivers License rules there also!
