New Year, New You?
Ah, January and the start of a fresh new year. It is a great time to set some goals for yourself for the upcoming year. We all have things we want to be better at and things we want to change. If you set a New Year’s Resolution- how is it going? Do you have specific plans for it, or are you just blindly diving into it?
This year, instead of setting a resolution, I wrote down a handful of things I wanted to accomplish this year. They ranged from drinking more water to taking my kids on a vacation to getting my credit cards paid off. I love the idea of putting goals on paper. It makes them feel more concrete than if you just have them in your mind. Sharing those goals makes me want to stick to them because I hate to let people down. I did this for my personal life and then for my professional life. Putting those professional goals down helps give me a sense of accomplishment at the end of the year when I can look back and see how I smashed those goals!
I’m also doing a word of the year, which is just a word to focus on throughout the year. I plan on using it as a guide for every situation that comes up. This year my word is RELAX. I get so caught up in life, and I forget to take a deep breath and relax. I miss a lot of the moments because I’m stressed out and worked up about what’s going on around me. If I can remind myself to take that breath and be able to relax I think that I’ll be a lot happier with things. This word can go through all aspects of my life- relax about a situation with my kids. Is worrying about if they are going to get food all over their shirt really that important? Lots of times I need to remind myself to breath before I react to a situation and learn to respond rather than react. Relax about the stress of work, just make a list and check things off. It will all get done.
Do you share your resolutions with anyone? Do you write them down? I’d love to hear what your goals and aspirations for 2019 are! Shoot me an email!
